THE POWER OF BELIEFS

A college freshman showed up late on the first day of her math class. As she entered she heard the teacher say “ …if you don’t complete them you will fail this class.” She noticed two problems on the board and wrote them down under the assumption that if she didn’t do these two problems that she would fail the class. She sat down at the library that night and worked on these problems. She struggled and struggled and finally left the library late at night deciding to hang it up for the day. As she walked home these two problems vexed her, she kept hearing those words “if you don’t complete them you will fail the class.” She vowed that she would work on them every spare minute the next day thinking that if she didn’t have them completed by the next class, that she would fail.
She worked hard the next day and finally completed one of the problems. She was now sure she could solve the next one but after many hours she was perplexed. She went to see the teacher before her class the next day thinking that maybe he could point her in the right direction in order to complete the unsolved problem. In his office she presented to him the one problem she had completed, to show him she was honestly working on these problems. She began to plead with him not to fail her because she had not solved the second problem and that she would like a little help. He stopped her in mid speech and with perplexing eyes he asked “Why would I fail you if you did not complete these two problems?” She was embarrassed and admitted to arriving late to his class, stating that she had heard him say “if you don’t complete them you will fail this class” and that she thought he was talking about the two problems on the board. While she was explaining herself, he was glancing over the one problem that she had solved. A big grin came over his face, “My my – you have just solved a problem that has never been solved and has had the best mathematicians perplexed for years!”
The moral of the story: 1) Not to be late you might miss some very important information; and 2) by far the most important moral is that since she had not heard that these two problems were impossible to solve – she BELIEVED that they were solvable to her and her classmates and that if she didn’t solve them that she would fail. If she would have known that they were impossible to solve she could have never done it!
Beliefs play a huge role in life. How many times has somebody told you “That’s impossible” or “You’ll never finish” or “You’re no good at that.” Beliefs are extremely powerful in our lives and when we believe something to be true – we literally are pushed into the state of it being true. Beliefs can be detrimental or they can create the greatest goods to our lives.

Naturally Good for You– Fruits

An Apple a day can really keep the Doctor away. Not only apples though – fruits in general! Straight from Mother Earth, fruits contain no unhealthy fats, are low in calories, and have natural sugars that our bodies use efficiently. Fruits are extremely good for us, and eating a diet rich in fruit can lower the risk of and prevent a number of serious illnesses and health problems, such as cancer, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. They aid in keeping our nice trim figures and prevent us from piling on the pounds. Some can actually assist in taking off the pounds.
APPLES
Apples are full of fiber, 3 grams in fact, but you have to eat the skin too. Apples have 2 kinds of fiber, the insoluble kind, this helps to lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and soluble fiber which helps to remove LDL in the liver.  They also contain a flavinoid, quercitin, which helps to lower your risk for heart disease. This flavinoid pairs up with vitamin C and increases antioxidant activity. Some studies show that apples help with chronic diseases such as Alzheimer's, prostate cancer, and lung cancer.

1 medium apple - 1 serving: Calories 65 - has Vitamin A - 1%, Vitamin C - 10%, calcium 1%, iron 1%
BANANAS
Bananas are rich in potassium. Potassium helps in many ways; it regulates blood pressure - reducing chances of a heart attack or stroke, and also helps to regulate calcium - therefore strengthening bones. Potassium aids in muscles contraction, assisting you when you get muscle cramps. Bananas have high levels of B6 for energy and also contain pectin, a fiber which helps your digestional tract. They are tasty, nutritional, and easily digestible.

1 medium banana - 105 calories, Vitamin A 2%, Vitamin C 17%, Dietary fiber 12%, Potassium 12%
PAPAYAS
Papayas are rich in vitamin C with approximately 313% of the RDA's recommended daily value. Papayas help to prevent colon cancer as well as aiding in regulating your cardiovascular system. They help to prevent atherosclerosis, the building of plaques in the arterial walls, leading to heart attacks and strokes. Eating papaya prevents colon cancer by preventing toxins from binding to colon cells. They also contain the enzyme papain which helps decrease inflammation in diseases such as arthritis or asthma. Papayas even help to prevent nausea.

1cup (140g) - 10% fiber, 31% vitamin A, 144% Vitamin C, 3% calcium, 1% iron
GRAPEFRUITS
Grapefruits are a great source of Vitamin A and C. They also contain potassium, calcium and iron. Although it has an acidic taste, when it is inside the body, it tends to increase the alkalinity of the body once inside the stomach. It therefore helps with acid in the stomach. Grapefruits also contain the antioxidant lycopene, known to possess anti-tumor activity. They are great for constipation, as they aid in bowel movements. This fruit has also been proven to help burn fat. Like other fruits, they help to prevent cancers, like prostate cancer. Other benefits include prevention of kidney stones and lowering of cholesterol.

Breakfast:
Banana         
            Chocolate Chip Pancake

Lunch:
Cherries       
            Turkey, avocado, tomato, and sprouts sandwich
Dinner:
Spinach Salad         
            Lasagna* and Garlic Bread
So start looking after your health, inside and out. Try to get at least 3-4 servings of fruits per day. Eating a grapefruit or drinking pure grapefruit juice right before you pig out on some cake will also combat the bad habit of refined sugar consumption!
1          lb. ground chuck, hamburger, or turkey, or a combination of any of the above
1          onion
24       ounces of tomato sauce
(3 8-ounce cans)
¼         teaspoon garlic powder
1          Tbsp minced garlic
1          Tbsp oregano
½         teaspoon black pepper
8          ounces cooked lasagna noodles
12       ounces ricotta cheese or cottage cheese or half ricotta and half cottage cheese
4          ounces mozzarella cheese

Brown the meat and drain off. In a 2-3 quart sauce pan combine meat, onion, tomato sauce, garlic, garlic powder, oregano, pepper and simmer approx. 30 minutes.

Spray 9x13 baking dish with non-stick spray. Layer noodles/sauce mixture/ricotta cheese, noodles/sauce mixture/ricotta cheese then top with mozzarella cheese. Cover and bake at 350-375° F about 30 minutes or until cheese has melted. Uncover for 5 minutes to brown the top.

One could add cooked, drained spinach if desired.

THEY ARE BERRY BERRY GOOD FOR YOU - DIETING WITH THE BERRIES

Part of dieting is eating healthier. Incorporating these colorful and delicious berries into your daily diet is a smart and easy way to start. Fresh berries are packed with vital nutrients, such as antioxidants, that are important to good health. STRAWBERRIES

BLACKBERRY
Blackberries are low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. They are excellent in aiding weight loss and maintaining good general health. They also known to the Greeks as the “gout-berry” because they are used to treat gout related symptoms. They contain fiber, manganese, folate, Vitamins C, E and K, magnesium, potassium, and copper.

BLUEBERRY
Blueberries are ranked No. 1 in antioxidant properties. In fact, gram for gram, they have twice that of spinach and three times that of oranges. They also may help to lower the risk of developing age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. They contain fiber, vitamin c, and pectin which helps to lower cholesterol. Blueberries also contain anthocyanin, which is a mild antibiotic properties, especially against intestinal bacteria that causes diarrhea.

RASPBERRY
Raspberries are a delicious fruit loaded with powerful phytonutrients (natural occurring chemical compounds) and anti-oxidants that can strengthen the immune system and help the body ward off diseases. They are also rich in vitamins C and B, fiber, folic acid, magnesium, copper and iron.

CRANBERRY
Cranberries contain significant amounts of antioxidants and other phytonutrients which help prevent heart disease, stroke, and cancer, among other health problems.  They also contain proanthocyanidins which help prevent the adhesion of bacteria to the walls of the urinary tract, prevent gum disease and stomach ulcers. Cranberries boost the level of pro-collagen in the skin which aides in preventing aging of the skin and maybe even helps to reverse the skin aging process.

GOJI BERRY
The Goji Berry is a dark red colored fruit that is sweet tasting. Most people don’t know that this fruit has extraordinary healing properties. It is also known as the “longevity fruit” because it is very high in anti-oxidants. This berry stimulates the secretion by the pituitary gland of human growth hormone, also known as the youth hormone, which helps to improve memory, accelerate healing, restore libido and gain a more youthful appearance. Its polyaccharides help to reduce body weight by converting more food into energy, not fat and its carotenoids protect against macular degeneration and cataracts. These berries have been linked to the prevention of diabetes and cancer and they also contains six vitamins and 21 minerals.

Dieting Help 1010

Help, I need somebody. Help, not just anybody. Help, I need somebody to understand. Ohh Help!
Help is here, and I’m not just anybody. I am one that understands the dieting dilemmas. I wrote an excellent E-Book called the Half Baked Diet Plan because I have gone through a lot of dieting dilemmas. In fact there was a dilemma to every diet, hence, I decided to come up with my own diet plan.
If you are like the many of thousands of people, out there right now, that took on a New Year’s resolution, and have already jacked up your diet plan, Don’t feel guilty, don’t feel ashamed. I know how you feel. I bet you wonder where your willpower has gone, like you have no power over your brain or your actions. You probably feel like a failure yet again because you just can’t change your eating habits. You feel that food has taken over not only your body, but your life. Well in all honesty…food probably has taken over both your body and your life……I’m here to help you take back control. With a little dieting help, let’s take control by doing a little at a time. Let’s not change your whole life and/or lifestyle at once, it simple won’t work.
First, pick three fruits that you like so much you could almost eat them every day, i.e. banana, apple, orange. Then pick a fruit you like but is kind of a luxury item, i.e. blueberries. And then pick one fruit you have never tried, maybe the papaya.
Second, pick three vegetables that you like so much you could almost eat them every day, i.e. lettuce or salad mix, corn, green beans. Then a veggie you like but is kind of a luxury item, i.e. portabella mushrooms. And then pick a vegetable you have never tried, maybe the eggplant.
Third, go to the store and buy these items. For the six fruits and veggies you picked that you could eat every day, buy enough of them so that you could mix and match them to have at least two of them a day, i.e. banana for breakfast, orange for lunch, salad for snacks or dinner and green beans for dinner. Buy enough of your luxury fruits and veggies for at LEAST one meal if not two. And buy the one serving of the fruit and vegetable that you have never tried.
Forth, eat 2-3 fruit servings per day. It is best that you eat the fruits before 6pm because of the natural sugars they contain. These sugars can keep you from sleeping if you eat them to late at night.
Fifth, eat at least 3, 4 is better, servings of vegetables per day.
Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet will do a few things for you. You will be giving your body more natural foods, and these foods are healthier for your body. Most people these days don’t even get one serving of fruits or vegetables in their daily diet….so by all means this is a start. And by eating your fruits and vegetables first at every meal you will feel fuller and will eat less.
Now that’s not hard is it? You can do this! You don’t have to cut out any of your favorite foods! Easy, simple, not much to change or do.  After a few weeks of this, we’ll add another step.

Sticking to your Diet – Finding the Perfect Diet to Stick to

How many diets have you tried just to have them fail you in a week or two? How about that diet that made you give up your favorite foods, that one didn’t work either did it? How do you find the perfect diet for you.
We’ve all been on a diet or two..ok maybe many! Oh yeah that one…what was it called…it worked..I lost 30 pounds! Eww! Yeah that was the one that once I got off of it I gained 60 back! Finding a diet that works for you during and after is found usually by trial and error…..and let’s face it, most never find it.
Here’s an exercise that will help you find the perfect diet for you.
Ask yourself a few questions: What foods am I willing to give up….forever? What will my family eat while I diet, will I be cooking two different dinners because my family won’t eat the diet foods? Am I willing to pay for a food program? Do I want to attend meetings? How much do I want to pay for this diet (pre-packaged food and/or membership)?  Do I have to weigh or measure things out? Do I want to clean out my cupboards to start? Do I want to read every label? Do I want to go out of my way to buy expensive, special foods? Can I do it alone or do I need a buddy?
Then you need to answer them, yes write both the questions and the answers down. That way you can really see what you are willing to do to lose weight.  Then put this sheet away and go on about your day. The next morning take out your Q & A sheet and look though it, are you changing any of your answers? This exercise can be a real eye opener. It brings you to the realization of what you are really willing to do and how determined you are.
I can tell you, from experience, that one day I can have all the determination in the world, and the next day I’m not willing to do much. I didn’t want to give up any of my favorite foods like, candy, cookies, chocolate, pizza, or lasagna. I was not going to cook two different meals for me and my family. I set my limit at $50.00 for a book, recipes or information (now that didn’t include the hundreds of dollars I had already spent on diet and exercise books.) I did not want to attend any meetings or pay for pre-packaged food. I was not willing to measure, weigh or even read labels. And I truly was not going to throw away perfectly good food that I had spent money on already. Now this sounds like I wasn’t very motivated, but I truly was! I just wanted something simple to follow, kind of like “moderation is key” or “cut your portions in half”.
